Excited to announce we now have our very own blend of tea from Camellia’s Tea House!
Tea has often been thought of as a quintessentially British drink and we have been drinking it for over 350 years.
However legend has it that the story of tea begins in China in 2737 BC. The Emperor Shen Nung was sitting beneath a tree while his servant boiled drinking water, when some leaves from the tree blew into the water. Shen Nung, a renowned herbalist, decided to try the infusion that his servant had accidentally created. The tree was a Camellia sinensis, and the resulting drink was what we now call tea (see image from Franz Eugen Köhler’s Medicinal Plants 1897).
With tea being known as the unofficial national drink of England, it’s easy to think tea has a significant history here. Actually tea became popular in England around the 17th century. The Queen made tea the drink of royalty and soon tea became a popular import to Britain via the East India Company which brought back many products, of which tea was just one, but it was to prove one of the most successful. Afternoon tea or tea parties became a common way for aristocratic society to drink tea. At tea parties and afternoons at the tea garden, the most popular English teas served are English Breakfast Tea and Earl Grey Tea.
Our supplier’s name, Camellia’s Tea House, was inspired by the name of this botanical plant that produces white, green and black teas. Like wines, teas produced by different estates have specific ‘vintages’ and differing levels of quality depending on which leaves are harvested during the production process.
The brand was created from a desire to create a wellness range of teas which would not only be founded on the well-known health properties of tea, but also on the quintessentially English heritage of tea drinking. They aspire to make drinking tea the “thing to do” whilst improving your health at the same time. It is an unique brand where teas are blended by hand using their own original and unique tea recipes. All packaging is hand finished and has a quaint, homemade quality to it. They only import teas from specialist tea gardens, known for their quality and pesticide-free manufacturing processes. All their teas are made in small batches thus ensuring the quality and freshness of the blends.
Our Park House Breakfast tea is a delicious combination of high altitude grown broken orange pekoe black teas from Assam and Darjeeling, which have been blended to produce a full bodied tea with delicate flowery and spicy undertones.
We stock a whole range of Camellia’s Teas at Park House. Come and enjoy an Afternoon Tea and try one of our special Park House blends. Alternatively a beautifully presented jar of our loose leaf tea blend can be bought from the spa as a special present for tea lovers!
